So some of you might be quite confused about some of the tweets I made last night. So to clear things up, I’ll tell you the story:
Since I recently got the last addition to my surgery, it is very important that I keep my legs strong and working. In order to do this, I usually jog nightly at around 6 or 7 o’clock. So yesterday I left my house around 7, and took the usual route while jogging.
I jogged past Ashton Ranch Elementary, then the local park that’s owned by my subdivision. I noticed that there was a group of 5 to 10 individuals gathered under the awning and tables of the park. Most of the them looked like men, who were wearing baseball caps.
I muted my music player in order to hear if they talked about me while I jogged past, I didn’t hear anything, so pressed on. I continued, made it to the next block, but became suspicious when I thought I saw someone’s shadow behind me. The next thing I remember was a firm but subtle hand grabbing my left shoulder. At first, I was taken aback, but since I lived in this neighborhood for several years, I figured a lost class mate from this area, was jogging as well and tried to get my attention over the music.
I was gravely wrong, I turned and was sucker punched in my mouth. The blow pushed me back, but did not knock me over. I shouted “What the fuck!?” in shock, as I was completely taken aback. Blood began to pour from my swollen gums and teared lips, as I pushed my assailant back, he grabbed me again and demanded “Give me your iPod!” I pushed him back again, ran down the incline into a green belt, and took off like there was no tomorrow.
I hardly looked back, I couldn’t slow down. Things were even more difficult, considering I have Asthma. I was four blocks away from my house, and was starting to make plans in my head to bang on a neighbor’s door and ask for help. When I finally made it to my block, I turned and found that the mugger was no longer following me.
I sprinted to my house, flung the door open and collapsed. My Mom recalls me having a ghostly complexion, as the blood continued to drop from my lips. I told them what happened through gasps for air and my Dad, infuriated with what happened, sprung into action, by grabbing me, a bat and rushing to the truck.
We did our best to locate the assaulter, but I couldn’t remember much about his appearance. He seemed to possibly be hispanic, not much taller than me, and I vaguely remember something about checkers and a baseball cap. The police came and the officer took my information, but it seems like to no avail.
Luckily he didn’t get my PSP (even though he thought it was an iPod), which is good. He did however, open my eyes and scare the shit out of me and my family.
So I urge you, whether you live in Surprise, near it, or far away, remember to pay attention to your surroundings, especially at night.
Thanks for all your kind words, it has made me feel a lot better. What do you guys think of this situation and has anything like this happened to you?
